Assessing your budget is critical to the success of any grant project. When compared with actual expenditures, the budget can help you anticipate potential problems on a timely basis, and provide opportunities to plan ahead by determining if you need to adjust activities or request an amendment. For example, if your grant is underspent because you didn’t start all your staff on Day 1, which is common, you may be able to use those funds to enhance other aspects of the grant early enough to make a difference. Another area that budget analysis can shed light on is expenditures for sub-awardees, where applicable. Our presenters will share some of the tools they use to manage their own budget against spending and performance and how they made decisions to amend their budget.
As a result of participating in this session, participants will hear examples of:
- Fiscal management practices including patterns of regular expenditure reconciliation with the budget plan and possibilities for course correction.
- How to work with sub-awardees and when to make adjustments in the relationship.
